FORUM
I've worked with the Alaska Humanities Forum for over a decade on many projects -- in particular, its occasional magazine FORUM.
The house design is understated and flexible, permitting the publication to emphasize content from some of Alaska's foremost writers and artists.
As with most publications, I'm the layout jockey as well as the art director. This permits me to juggle space on the fly to improvise solutions for content, sequencing, and deadline constraints.

First Alaskans Magazine
I've had the honor of working with First Alaskans Institute since 2013 on First Alaskans Magazine. FAI came to me for a complete redesign and, following that, regular art direction, layout, and production management.
One of the magazine's priorities is to have Alaska Native languages on every page. We accomplished this by liberal use of standing heads for sections and departments. Each issue features a different Alaska Native language, well represented by Commercial Type's energetic and graphic typeface Publico.

Other publications
I've worked on numerous other publications, including stints with the Anchorage Press, Coast Alaska, SnowRider, Summit, Register-Guard and others. These experiences give me respect for other publication professionals -- editors, photographers, writers, press folks, distribution -- and the perspective of how my role fits into the complex workflow that produces an attractive, on-time product in the hands of readers.
